ANDERSON — It’s poker night, and friends have gathered at the apartment of Oscar Madison, a divorced sportswriter.
However, there’s one problem: Their friend, Felix Unger, is missing.
The guys speculate about why Unger isn’t there. They decide to call his wife, who tells them he left home. They soon find out the Ungers are divorcing.

Murray (Brian Shetterly) holds onto his deck while playing a game of poker during a rehearsal of “The Odd Couple.”
Unger arrives at Madison’s apartment feeling lost and alone.
However, Unger isn’t alone. Madison, who is divorced, knows how Unger feels.
“Oscar (Madison) is a guy trying to figure out what he wants,” said Anthony Johnson, the actor portraying Madison in the Alley Theatre’s production of “The Odd Couple,” slated for Nov. 9-12 at The Alley Theatre.
“He doesn’t know what he wants,” Johnson continued. “He knows he doesn’t want what he has, he doesn’t want to be alone, he doesn’t know how to handle that. His struggle is figuring that out through this whole situation.”
Seeing his friend’s distress, Madison invites Unger to live with him.

Living together sounds like a great idea, except Unger is neat, while Madison is sloppy. An odd couple, indeed.

Neil Simon’s classic was the first performance in the current theater room, according to Rick Vale, artistic director for The Alley Theatre.
It is also the first installment in the Alley’s 10th anniversary season. The next installment will be “A Christmas Carol,” Vale’s musical adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel.
It is scheduled for the stage Dec. 13-17. Tickets are available at The Alley Theatre’s website.
The play will follow cold-hearted businessman Ebenezer Scrooge and his journey with the three spirits.

Murray (Brian Shetterly) deals angrily after his friend Speed (Martin Stapleton) complains about his slow dealing during a rehearsal of “The Odd Couple,” slated for The Alley Theatre stage Nov. 9-12.
