Ethereum, the world’s second most popular cryptocurrency, is set to undergo a revolutionary upgrade known as Ethereum 2.0. Each shard chain will have its validators, and these validators will work in parallel to process transactions, further enhancing the network’s capacity.
Another critical aspect of Ethereum 2.0 is the introduction of eWASM (Ethereum WebAssembly). This upgrade will replace Ethereum’s current programming language, Solidity, with a more efficient and secure language for executing smart contracts. This change will not only make the Ethereum network more developer-friendly but also facilitate interoperability among different programming languages, opening up possibilities for innovation and collaboration across various blockchain platforms.
Moreover, Ethereum 2.0 will enhance the network’s security, making it more resistant to attacks and vulnerabilities. The introduction of shard chains will provide a level of isolation among transactions, minimizing the impact of potential vulnerabilities. Furthermore, the PoS mechanism will reduce the risk of a 51% attack, where a single validator or group of validators gain control over the majority of the network’s computing power.
In terms of sustainability, Ethereum 2.0’s shift to PoS will drastically reduce energy consumption compared to the current PoW mechanism. The high energy consumption of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin has been a topic of concern due to its environmental impact. The move to PoS will make Ethereum more environmentally friendly and align with the growing global focus on sustainability.
