TRUMAN– The Truman City Council had a brief meeting on Monday where it heard a community building project report. Deputy Clerk Carol Becker said the grant they received was $40,000 and that the city has received about $5,700 in donations this year for the community building.
“So far, for the grant… $27,200 has been spent so far,” Becker said.
However she said a bill is still needed for recent roof work and floor work. Once those bills are in the grant money will likely be gone.
“They spent about $5,000 of the (total) donated money so far, which went to stainless steel… for a backsplash. Whoever did that only billed for the material, not labor,” Becker said.
She spoke about some other money that was spent on countertop installation but noted that there’s still almost $2,000 left of the donated money.
Becker also shared that the city had received a request for funds from the card club to paint the fireplace room in the community building. However, the card club ended up saying it will use its own funds to paint the room later this week, which the council approved.
In other news, Utility Foreman, Brent Brown, provided a number of updates. Brown touched on the 2024 utility budget and said that no adjustments have been made in recent weeks, though a few items have been moved around.
“You wouldn’t notice because the bottom line has stayed the same,” Brown said.
He also said they have received two quotes for the power plant roof repairs, but are still waiting on one more and once it’s received, the options will come back to the council fro a decision and it will then be worked into the budget.
In other news, the council:
— Approved the fire department and ambulance department elections.
— Approved a resolution to contract with a city official, with an amended total.
