A House committee released former President Donald Trump’s tax returns Friday following a protracted legal battle. And, the House Jan. 6 committee released several more interview transcripts on Friday. CBS News congressional correspondent Scott MacFarlane joins the show to discuss these developments out of Capitol Hill.

Trump operates his many businesses as “pass-through” entities –that means they pay no corporate income taxes but pass through all of their earnings, deductions and losses to his personal returns. Trump might have paid no income taxes for nearly two decades is based on the simple fact that as of 1995, the U.S. Tax Code permitted “net operating losses” (NOLs) from businesses, such as those Trump reported, to be used to offset other income in the two years before and 15 years after the year they occurred. Many business owners pay little to no taxes. They have a good tax professional who makes sure they legally pay as little tax as possible according to the most current tax codes. You can write congress and ask they change the tax codes, but they won't because Democrat and Republican politician business owners don't pay any taxes either based on current codes. They use tax strategies unavailable to the majority of their constituents. Ultrawealthy politicians avoid paying taxes. A decade ago the McClatchy Newspaper asked all 535 members of the House and Senate to release their tax records. Only 17 did. Pelosi was NOT one of them. Of the lawmakers who shared their tax returns, most got large deductions for interest on personal and investment real estate. But let's continue to waste time and money on Trump's tax returns trying to keep him from running again. Yet, we currently have a sitting President and his son who get a pass.

Investigations for evidence require FINDING something. Trump was asking for an investigation for evidence that there were votes to be found that should have been counted but were not.
