India shold aspire to make cheaper cars of highest quality for Indian conditions. Mr Tata tried and Indian consumers want expensive imported cars and brands like Mercedes, BMW, Audi etc over "Make in India" products. For BEV and FCEV vehicles, India should be able to make cheaper and better quality cars. How are imported cars cheaper then Indian manufactured cars?

  • Rahul Raj on January 15, 2022

This tactics of musk will not workout here, if Tesla is not coming to Indian Market means nothing will happen to us. Better technologies and innovations are coming day by day in EV industry of India. If America have musk means, we are having TATA, who could compate with anyone in world.

Better you may regret for this mr musk..

Now you it comes to India you are supporting the government while you always criticize the Chinese…

If it was China you would have said that the government is trying to prevent companies to export to China

    No Tesla only Tata

  • Avi Mutchall on January 15, 2022

We don't need expensive Tesla cars , we need low priced mass market cars of India wants to accelerate , and we have to choice in this regards , give more incentives to Indian companies rather than Tesla

Tesla is better off focusing in other markets.. just look at where all the other foreign auto makers ended up.. it’s India’s loss and everyone else’s gain since there isn’t enough teslas to go around…

  • abin jos on January 15, 2022

All this will not matter when tesla will be the greatest company in the world and all others will just die out like Nokia
Let tesla sell for a year or 2 get the data under the condition to build a factory in India
It’s just that our government doesn’t want the loss of income by selling petrol and government is supporting the petroleum companies too

  • santosh more on January 15, 2022

We don't need Tesla in INDIA…

  • Rohit Kesarkar on January 15, 2022

The same way he even calls fuel cell as "fool cell".. but it's not.. if the same amount of money that was used in r&d of lithium ion battery is used for fuel cell then even they will one day become efficient. I feel India must rather focus in this field and build things like hydrogen trains, fuel cell trucks, hydrogen boats and hydrogen planes.. hydrogen is the future.

  • Zhabivnyk Salskyi on January 15, 2022

I would suggest Tesla never come to India with such attitude. India is not that big market. Tesla's strategy is 2 Giga factories per 1 continent. Thailand will be happy to host the second Tesla Gigafactory in Asia (after Shanghai)

  • FM on January 15, 2022

Tesla should not come to India. It will soon fall. Ah0leee Moody is working for making India Islamic state.

Why not give everyone a 3yr trial run to test the markets. Then increase tax.

  • Siby Kurian on January 15, 2022

Come on GOI open the market for Tesla cyber truck and make it available and affordable for Indian roads at least for a pilot run. Then you can close the market and see how it plays out. Tesla brought EV innovation to the world and it will change the Indian market as well and will create long term value.

  • Rocky Wade on January 15, 2022

Fcuk Tesla. If he want to sell in India, make in India.

  • tipoomaster on January 15, 2022

If they sell well in India then they'd consider building a gigafactory there. Cart before the horse here. Is he "targetting" India or does he want to work there but can't test the market with the 100% tariff? Why is this host so dramatic lol. "Random internet user" couldn't just use the name right there instead of the constant sarcasm drip lol, it's even a fellow Desi lol.

  • Ready Temp on January 15, 2022

100% import duty on ANY product, be it bubble gum or vehicles. That hurts the India people who can't afford bubblegum.

  • ksal julimaia juli on January 15, 2022

Tesla cars are garbage . Just like all American manufacture cars.
