General Motors is already in decline, but the real survival test hasn’t yet occurred. While GM is planning multiple electric vehicles for the future, its timeline are far out leaving the company little room for failure. ARk Invest is predicting 40% EV market share by 2025 whereas GM is forecasting its own EV share to be 40% by 2030. This misalignment could be DEVASTATING to the company. General Motors is also working on its Ultium Battery platform, however Tesla chief Elon Musk has warned against using the types of battery cells that GM has invested in. At the same time, Tesla’s full self driving software continues to improve day by day, but GM’s Cruise division has recently has a shakeup of its own.

the Bolt is actually a nice EV and so are the recently announced (@CES) models. i hope they can get the batteries they need and shift to EVs soon. i want to see more successful EV manufacturers, not wish for their demise.

Big huge entrenched corporations have built up layers of management that over time become about as complacent as gov't bureaucrats. It is a culture that is hard to change. Then along comes a competitor like Tesla that is nimble and whose managers know job security is only as good as your performance yesterday and it is highly disruptive to less nimble competitors. Everything about Tesla is innovative and state of the art.
Not much time for GM to ask Mary to step aside and make room for somebody more energized.
As for Joe Biden he too is a genius. He was able to reform his crackhead son into an accomplished artist with no training who can command $1 million for each of his proliferation of paintings which are display on the wall of many politicos homes.

General Motors….and the other Big Two are still having meetings on "How can we make cars rust out and fall apart if they are electric with aluminum bodies…..because that has been the premise behind every vehicle they have ever made. (the 'hybrids are a mechanic's wet dream come true….but people will soon see through those.)

Battery unit capacity and cost is the only key to success in EV sales. Any moron can see that. Building a vehicle that uses masses of batteries, weights over 3 tons and costs a fortune is not the way forward. A smaller, cheaper vehicle is. GM shares will drop, whilst Ford will gain market share.
Will be glad to see GM go by the wayside. Their a crappy old company that has outlived its usefulness.
Government Motors would’ve broken down into small chunk healthy parts sold off if it was not for all government protection and subsidies.

Barra is a con-man and is clearly lying about GM chances in the EV space. She is mis-leading investors and even the President. Although that is not saying much. Anyway, expect GM to request a bail-out in the near future.

GM I think went down hill once they sold thier heavy truck division to Volvo. If you think about it, they made a cheap highway tractor which sold well. I worked at a WhiteGMC dealer in 1988, at our grand opening I talked to a GM person and asked do you think GM could ever go bankrupt, he just laughed and told me GM owned so many companies and land it would never happen. Well GM got rid of thier Heavy duty division first then the medium division slowly went away. Then look at all the car divisions they shut down. Then they forced dealers in Canada to close down. This makes me wonder how successful are they really
GM needs to tear down all their factories and install robots. GM needs to follow Tesla. robots do not need a raise, they do not need rest break, vacation, insurance, sick leave and no benefits. full automation will solve GM major problem.
electric cars are not the solution. GM needs to start producing Fuel Cell vehicles. this will counter Tesla and there are places that fuel cell vehicles can go and operate at a better solution. there is 3 ways to make hydrogen. Hey GM, trick the market and produce fuel cell vehicles. if China makes and uses 1,000,000 electric vehicles. they will need to use more coal to produce the electric to power the electric cars. Ha, ha, more pollution to power the electric vehicles. GM produces Fuel cell vehicles they can take over the market again. Musk is solving the battery problem and charging time. they have a new Glass battery. 5-15 minutes to charge and 1000 miles on one charge. Repeat: GM start fuel cell vehicles and make the government set up electric charging stations and fuel cell refueling stations.
GM needs to also invest millions $'s and start the new version of computer chips. stop waiting for the countries to get back production. start fully automated new version computer chips in America. make sure the factory is in a state with no unions.
