The CIF Southern Section held its track and field Masters Meet on Saturday, May 20, at Moorpark High School.

Ten Inland athletes and one relay team claimed titles, and several others qualified for the upcoming CIF State championship meet.

Vista Murrieta’s Aspen Fears defended her Master Meet championship in the girls pole vault and did so in record-breaking fashion. Fears won the title Saturday with a mark of 13 feet, 4 inches, which topped her own Inland record by an inch.

Orange Vista’s Kailah McKenzie repeated as the section’s girls 100-meter hurdles champion, winning that final in a personal-best time of 13.82 seconds. She also qualified for the state meet in the long jump (second place) and the high jump (tied for second).

North’s Mackenize Browne is the defending state champion in the girls 800 meters, and she claimed her first Master Meet title by winning that event final Saturday in a time of 2:07.49. Browne managed to hold off Ventura’s Sadie Engelhardt (2:09.76) down the stretch.

Santiago’s Rylee Blade claimed the title in the girls 3200 meters in a time of 10:27.84. Blade also qualified for state in the 1600 meters. She ran a personal-best time of 4:46.28 on Saturday but was edged out at the line by Engelhardt (4:46.02).

King’s Alyssa Hope brought home the girls long jump championship, winning with a leap of 19 feet, 9 1/2 inches.

Claremont made history Saturday afternoon by winning the inaugural girls 4 x 800 relay championship. L’Mio Edwards, Denise Chen, Isla Bulmer and Kaitlyn Smith combined for a time of 9.07.84.

Upland’s David Davis-Lyric won the boys 110-meter hurdles championship with a time of 13.89, his 15th straight victory in a 110 hurdles race. David-Lyric also qualified for the state meet in the 300 hurdles with a sixth-place finish (38.49).

Roosevelt’s Cayden Roberson made it an Inland sweep in the boys hurdles, winning the 300 title in a personal-best time of 37.59.

North’s Justice Mephors continued his late-season push in the boys discus, winning the title with a personal-best throw of 184-7.

The Great Oak boys team had a pair of Masters Meet champions Saturday. Westin Brown captured the title in the 1600 meters in a personal-best time of 4:11.50. Andrew Robinson won the boys triple jump championship following a personal-best jump (46-10 1/4).

An additional 29 Inland athletes and five relay teams also qualified for the state meet by either finishing in the top six in their respective events or by posting a time or mark that met the at-large standard for qualification.

Three Inland athletes qualified for the state finals in two events. Paloma Valley’s Jason Deal advanced in the boys 100 and 200. Vista Murrieta’s Alyssa Alumbres and United Christian Academy’s Tamara Aimufia both qualified in the girls long jump and triple jump.

The Chino Hills girls track and field team had all three of its relay teams (4 x 100, 4 x 400 and 4 x 800) advance to state.
